For years my son would wet the bed a lot. If I did not let him drink after 6 he seemed to be OK. But in the summer that is just not feasible.
I asked him one day if he knew when he was beginning to wet the bed and he told me he did but he was just so tired, he didn't want to get up. I explained to him that if he got up he would not be so uncomfortable. He said it was usually right before he got up for the day. Once I explained to him that it was OK to get up, go to the bathroom and go back to bed, it seemed a little light went off in his head. He hasn't had an accident since.
I don't think he realized that it would only take a minute and he could go back to sleep dry and comfortable. I wish I would have talked to him sooner, but I didn't want to seem like it was a big problem. I don't know if this will work for anyone else but it sure has helped us, and now he doesn't feel sad and ashamed anymore.
