Bedtimes Get Better with Nighttime Protection
By Carrie

My 11-year-old continues to wet the bed. It's a "given" in our household that he wear GoodNites® Underpants to bed. I have spoken to his pediatrician and she, last year, attempted to put him on medication for this problem. Although this is not a response to the question at hand, I wanted to share this with other mothers before they resort to medication.

When Jake was put on his medications, I immediately noticed one change: his attitude. Jake became very emotional and would cry at the simplest requests, e.g. when directed to clean his room, shower, etc. I spoke to his pediatrician because the problem just worsened and worsened to the point he would cry at the smallest of things. Although, he was not wetting as often (I did notice a decrease in frequency), his emotional state was saddening to me. I would much rather have my child wet the bed or wet in his GoodNites® Underpants than be so emotional to a point where I was seriously concerned for his well-being. Needless to say, I took him off the medication.

His nighttime wetting continues. However, as he gets older, his urine output appears to have decreased and the frequency of his wetting, at night, has lessened. I have been told by the pediatrician that Jake's problem can be attributed to an under-developed bladder. With that, I can feel better for my son -it's not his fault. It's just the cards he was dealt.
