Since my boys were toddlers, they have all loved hearing a story or two before lights out. While fairy tales and legends are the lore of bedtime tales, my kids’ favorites have always been the stories I dream up myself, often on the spot, weaving their names and personalities into the plot.

Even my bigger boys love hearing bedtime stories. It’s a fantastic way for us to share a quiet, calm moment at the end of the day, and gives them an opportunity to bring up any fears or worries weighing on their minds. Even better, I can make their character overcome the fear in the story, helping give my boys a peaceful night’s sleep – the same way GoodNites® Sleep Pants help bigger kids enjoy a great night by reducing their anxiety over something they can’t control: bedwetting.

It’s not difficult to tell a bedtime story, it can often be made up on the spot. Don’t worry that your story won’t be outlandish or creative enough: kids love to hear everything from tales about magical beasts and super powers to stories of regular children doing regular things. Start with something ordinary: “Once upon a time, a boy named Jack was walking down the street…” and feel free to ramble wherever your imagination takes you. If you get stuck, say “And can you guess what happened next?” Often, your child will chime in with a suggestion or plot twist of his own – a good way to find out what’s on his mind.

One of the best gifts we can give our children is a comfortable, confident night’s sleep. Whatever our bedtime routine is, with each tuck in, bedtime story or final hug and kiss before lights-out, we’re telling our kids we love them by making sure they’re comfortable and relaxed. While waiting for an older child to outgrow bedwetting, GoodNites® products can be just one more part of your night routine.
