Community member Leslie's daughter, Casey, is 9 years old, the prime age for starting to sleep over at her friends' houses. With a big birthday slumber party to attend, Casey was feeling a bit apprehensive about her bedwetting. But with a little preparation and discussion, and armed with GoodNites® Underpants, Casey handled the slumber party with ease.

Step-Mom Makes Sure Bedtime is Quality Time
By Jamie

My name is Jamie, and for the past seven years my stepson, DJ, has wet the bed. We have been using GoodNites(r) for at least six of the seven years, and they are a tremendous help.

I believe that after trying medicine and other tactics to stop the bedwetting that a lot of the problem lies in emotions. DJ is now fixing to turn 12 and the wetting continues. His mom and dad had an unpleasant separation, and although he's been through some counseling for this, the bedwetting was not the issue at the time. We have yet to go to our physical for this year, and I plan to bring up the issue again to see what else the pediatrician might recommend.

DJ wakes up every night within a few hours of going to bed and made to use the restroom again. He is restricted on fluid intake after supper and uses the restroom before bed. Sometimes the middle of the night waking helps and sometimes it doesn't.

If the GoodNites(r) is wet in the morning, he simply throws it away. If the bed still gets wet, DJ is required to strip his bed down to the plastic mattress cover and deposit the soiled sheets in the washroom.

When DJ is conscious of the problem – say a friend is staying over – he sleeps in regular underwear, is still waken up for the middle of the night restroom use and has been successful every time so far. Last summer he actually went two weeks in regular underwear, no middle of the night waking and stayed dry, which drives home the emotional issue for me.

When he feels unstable it happens more often. I have read stories of kids wetting the bed until 18. I hope this is not the case for DJ. I'm hoping with maturity, stable environment and puberty that DJ will stop wetting, as this is emotional for his dad and him as well as myself. DJ has been living with us for the past year, and although the problem is still there, we're hoping that time is the answer.
