Community member Leslie's daughter, Casey, is 9 years old, the prime age for starting to sleep over at her friends' houses. With a big birthday slumber party to attend, Casey was feeling a bit apprehensive about her bedwetting. But with a little preparation and discussion, and armed with GoodNites® Underpants, Casey handled the slumber party with ease.

Mom Helps Child Through Shared Experience
By Kim

I have two children. My daughter's name is Alexa. She is 4 years old. She will turn 5 on January 14. My son's name is Jett. He is 2 years old. He will turn 3 on May 12.

I thought I was going to wait for Alexa to initiate potty training, but she didn't. One month before she turned 3, I bought a potty. I told her she wasn't going to wear diapers anymore because she was a big girl. Within a week she was potty trained during the day.

At night I let her wear a PULL-UP. Every night before she goes to sleep I ask her to pee even if she says she doesn't have to. Usually she says she doesn't have to but pees when she gets on the toilet. Most mornings she wakes up with a wet PULL-UP. I don't make a big deal of it. I do make a big deal of it when she wakes up with a dry PULL-UP.

I don't know if she is lazy and just pees in the PULL-UP because it is easy or actually sleeps through it. She says she doesn't wake up when she is peeing. She is a little embarrassed waking up with a wet PULL-UP.

When I was a little girl, it took me a long time to get bladder control at night. There was no such thing as PULL-UPS. It was very embarrassing for me. I don't believe she will go to college wetting her bed at night.

We just relocated to Utah. We are staying at my mom's house. As soon as we purchase our own house, I plan on purchasing a plastic cover for her new mattress on her new bed (that I haven't bought yet) and seeing what happens without a PULL-UP. I will go with the flow. If it seems like she really doesn't have nighttime bladder control, then I will allow her to wear PULL-UPS again.

Jett is only 2. He is not potty trained. I will train him by 3 if he does not show any interest prior to then. I imagine nighttime training will take longer.
