I feel so bad that my son has this problem too. But unfortunately he got it from both sides. His dad and myself both wet the bed.
I can't really remember when I actually stopped. I think I must have blocked that out. I do remember, though, the way I would feel when I was going to stay overnight somewhere: the fear that going to sleep was going to be an embarrassment.
I decided that I was going to try anything to help my son stop. He is 5 years old, which I know is not that old, but I want to really try before it gets out of hand. I started by buying the GoodNites®, which I have to say are about the best thing, and I wish they had these when I was younger.
This was OK, but if he stayed with the grandparents and we forgot them, he would have an accident. It got to the point that he actually would get up in the early morning, change his underwear and put a towel on his bed, so he didn't have to wake me. This was a lot to do and only be 4 at the time.
I finally started getting him up two or more times a night. I feel like I have an infant, but as long as I do this, he stays dry overnight. He is getting heavier and harder to carry, but it is worth it to have him tell me in the morning: "Mommy, I didn't pee the bed today!" He is so proud to tell me this. He never remembers that I get him up, so I really don't make that an issue. I just let him know how proud I am that he stayed dry the whole night. Thanks for allowing me to share my story and how this is working for me.
