My son Andrew was potty trained at 2 1/2 years old. When he started first grade he was still doing fine until about the middle of the year. He couldn't stand his teacher. He started wetting the bed and soon after he was wetting during the day. Then he was having bowel movements during the day. The weird thing was he could not feel it anymore. He didn't know he needed to go. We thought he was just traumatized and he got counseling. Nothing was helping.
It has been three years and we found out about three months ago that he has Spina Bifida. We also found out that his bladder is only one-third of the size its supposed to be and he had pounds of poop stuck inside. We used a lot of loosening agents and got some, but then his doctor did an MRI and found that his tethered spinal cord had fatty tissue on it. She said that they could cut it in half and it might release the nerves so that he could feel to go to the bathroom again. We decided to have the surgery done and guess what? It worked!! Three days in PICU and he was going home with underwear on!!! I know not everyone has the same problem, but I only hope this will help someone else. God Bless!!
