Can reducing milk in my 5-year-old's diet help with bedwetting?
Answer
Bedwetting, or enuresis, is very common, affecting up to 20 percent of children, mostly boys. It is caused by delayed maturation of the mechanism that allows control of urination, so most grow out of it by the age of 10. It is hereditary, and children can be expected to grow out of it at about the same time as their parents did.
Milk does not have any effect except as a fluid, which should be restricted in the evening, preferably nothing after 7 p.m. (depending on bedtime).
